UPDATE: Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in St. Mary’s County

Maryland State Police are investigating a Thursday-evening collision that left one driver dead and two people injured on Maryland Route 235 (Three Notch Road), in Mechanicsville. Troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack were dispatched at 5:58 p.m. on April 24, 2025, to the intersection of Route 235 and Mt. Zion Church Road. According to the preliminary investigation, a southbound GMC Canyon, driven by Casper Bradbury Sr., 92, attempted to turn left onto Mt. Zion Church Road and failed to yield to a northbound GMC Envoy. The Envoy, driven by Jean Gagnon, 59, of Mechanicsville, struck the passenger side of the pickup, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bradbury and passenger Norma Bradbury, 90, also of Mechanicsville, were flown to MedStar Washington Hospital Center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command for treatment of their injuries. Route 235 was closed at the intersection for about three hours while personnel from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration managed traffic control. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation.
