Comptroller Franchot Reminds Marylanders of Extended July 15, 2022 Deadline for State Income Taxes

Comptroller Peter Franchot reminds Marylanders that they have one month remaining to file and pay their state individual income taxes for tax year 2021. In January, Comptroller Franchot extended the individual income tax filing and payment due date by three months to Friday, July 15, 2022. He also pushed back the deadline for first and second quarter individual estimated tax payments for tax year 2022 to July 15, 2022. These extensions do not apply to pass-through entities or corporate estimated tax filers. “These extensions have given thousands of Marylanders the extra time they need to file and to pay their taxes as the pandemic continues to leave its mark on family budgets,” Comptroller Franchot said. “Our staff has already processed nearly 2.9 million returns and, in most cases, have sent much-needed refunds to taxpayers within days.” Since the tax season started on January 24, the Comptroller’s Office has issued nearly $2.21 billion in refunds to more than two million taxpayers. Last year, the Comptroller’s Office processed nearly 3.3 million returns and disbursed $3.2 billion in refunds.
