UPDATE: 2-Alarm House Fire in Waldorf Deemed Accidental, Injured Firefighter Treated and Released from Hospital

UPDATE: On Sunday, February 28, 2021, at 7:00 p.m., firefighters responded to 10904 Maryland Woods Court in Waldorf, for the reported house on fire. Crews arrived on the scene to find fire showing from a two story split-foyer single family dwelling. The owner/occupants have been identified as the Currie family. Investigation determined the fire started on the basement level screened-in patio, with the estimated loss of structure and content being valued at $250,000.00 The fire has been deemed accidental, and caused by an electrical event from a small freezer being plugged into a power strip. The occupants of the residence witnessed the fire and were able to safely escape without injury. All occupants are being assisted by family. One firefighter from Waldorf suffered minor burns to the upper body and was transported to MedStar Washington for treatment. He has since been released and is resting at home. Smoke alarms were present and activated, the residence had no fire alarm or sprinkler systems in place.
